Interestingly enough following a post we put out about due dilligance, today the SIA has realsed a post addressing whether or not people should be employed and understanding your liabilities as an employer!
Previously the construction industry had many or its employee’s as self employed until HMRC involvement and most were migrated to PAYE status.
Sadly enough the security industry follwed suit in many ways seeing a high proportion of “companies” utilising self employed operatives.
We understand that there is a place for self emlpyed contractors but many of these companies had an individual working only for them in their uniform and registered as self employed.
We were informed by our local area SIA representative some time ago that this would be something in which the HMRC would be addressing.
