Security Officer – Job Description

    1. Role Purpose
    The Security Officer is responsible for protecting people, property, and assets at assigned locations by delivering high-quality security services in line with Stance Security policies, SIA licensing requirements, and all relevant legislation.
    The role requires vigilance, professionalism, strong customer service skills, and the ability to respond effectively to incidents, emergencies, and changing site conditions.

    3. Key Responsibilities
    3.1 Security & Protection
    • Protect premises against theft, damage, trespass, threat, or intrusion.
    • Control access to the site, permitting entry to authorised personnel only.
    • Conduct regular high-visibility internal and external patrols of buildings, perimeters, and grounds.
    • Ensure doors, windows, gates, and access points are secure.
    • Maintain situational awareness and monitor for suspicious behaviour, hazards, or security risks.

    3.2 Incident Response
    • Respond swiftly and safely to alarms, emergencies, and incidents.
    • Assess risk, use approved techniques, and follow escalation protocols.
    • Assist in incident containment, evacuation, first aid (if trained), or emergency services liaison.
    • Complete incident reports, statements, and log entries accurately and promptly.

    3.3 Customer Service
    • Deliver excellent customer service at all times.
    • Greet and assist visitors, contractors, and staff, following site access procedures.
    • Provide clear directions, support, and reassurance to members of the public and site users.
    • Maintain a professional, calm, and courteous manner, even under pressure.

    3.4 Compliance & Documentation
    • Follow all Assignment Instructions, site-specific procedures, and company policies.
    • Complete all required documentation including:
    o Occurrence logs
    o Patrol logs
    o Incident reports
    o Visitor/contractor records
    • Protect personal data in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 / UK GDPR.
    • Support compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 requirements.

    3.5 Professional Standards
    • Wear full, clean, and approved uniform; maintain a smart and professional appearance.
    • Display SIA licence at all times while on duty.
    • Uphold the Stance Security Code of Ethics and SIA Standards of Behaviour.
    • Maintain high levels of vigilance, integrity, and reliability throughout each duty period.

    3.6 Health & Safety
    • Work safely and follow all Health & Safety procedures.
    • Conduct dynamic risk assessments during incidents and patrols.
    • Report hazards, unsafe conditions, near misses, or incidents immediately.
    • Support site fire procedures and participate in drills where required.
    • Maintain fitness levels appropriate for responding to incidents, handling physical interventions (if trained), and conducting patrol duties.

    4. Tasks & Activities
    • Monitor CCTV, access control systems, and security equipment where authorised.
    • Manage keys, radios, and issued equipment responsibly.
    • Handle out-of-hours enquiries and operational issues.
    • Support crowd management and event operations when assigned.
    • Assist with vehicle access control, deliveries, and contractor management.
    • Participate in security briefings, toolbox talks, and mandatory training.

    5. Skills & Qualifications
    Essential
    • Valid SIA Licence (aligned to assigned duties).
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and observational skills.
    • Ability to write clear, factual reports and statements.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Good IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, email systems).
    • Reliable, confident, and able to remain calm under pressure.
    • Ability to work nights, weekends, shifts, and unsociable hours as required.
    • Good spoken and written English.
    Desirable
    • Previous experience in security, military, police, prison, fire service, or similar roles.
    • First Aid at Work certificate.
    • Valid UK driving licence.
    • Knowledge of emergency procedures or conflict management.

    • Complete mandatory refresher training
